I’ve heard a couple descriptions of what it’s like to build a startup and wanted to share them below. I’ll keep this as a running list. I think that as humans we are hard-wired for stories / metaphors / analogies so these mediums often do a better job of encapsulating what the X thing is vs a bullet point list describing X very “matter of fact-ly.”
Building a company is somewhat like building a religion. If people don’t connect what they’re doing day-to-day with a higher purpose they care about, they will not do a great job.
Building a startup is like chewing glass. And eventually you start to like the taste of your own blood.
