Do we live in a society of crabs?

I saw the below Tweet from Jerry Teixeira and it instantly reminded me of two incredible crab related analogies:

First, does the below resonate with you? Do you think we live in a society of crabs? Have there been times when your ability to take action has led to a feeling that others are trying to tear you down?

If you put one crab in a bucket, it will crawl out. If you put multiple crabs in a bucket, they will pull each other down every time one starts to crawl out. If a crab continues to try and crawl out of the bucket the other crabs will break its leg. Unfortunately, we live in a society of crabs. When you are climbing out of a bucket full of crabs, there will be many people who try to pull you back down to their level.

An illuminating follow up question is if we do indeed live in a society of crabs, then what is the highest form of treason? Making a leap for the rim of the bucket.

The highest treason a crab can commit is to make a leap for the rim of the bucket

So what is one supposed to do if we really live in a society of crabs?

I agree with Jerry: all one can do is ignore these people (these crabs) and keep growing (making a leap for the rim of the bucket).
